Scheduled Maintenance
A vehicle’s air conditioning (AC) system should create a comfortable ride for the driver and passengers in the car. Elements such as the sun, asphalt, and the engine, which produces a lot of heat while your car is running, cause the interior of your automobile to heat up. Your vehicle’s AC system is responsible for cooling, purifying, and circulating the air inside your vehicle to insure a pleasant ride for all passengers.
Ever wonder how an air conditioner works? It works in unison with five components, the Compressor, Condenser, Receiver-dryer, Expansion valve and the Evaporator.
Your air conditioner uses tubing and flexible hoses that connect each part which allow you to cool off when you push that wonderful A/C or snowflake symbol.
Here is a short break down of what each part does.
Compressor: Pushes refrigerant vapor (a fluid that passes around the entire system) under high pressure to the Condenser.
Condenser: Changes the refrigerant vapor to a liquid form by condensing it using enormous amounts of pressure.
Receiver: Removes moisture that could have leaked into the refrigerant.
Expansion Valve: Removes pressure from the liquid refrigerant to be able to expand to a vapor.
Evaporator: Absorbs heat from the air on the inside of your car. It uses a fan to push the air over the outside of the evaporator to allow cold air to blow inside your vehicle. Any moisture collected will be drained.
As you can see, in order to keep you and your passengers cool and comfortable while driving, all of these components must be working in conjunction with each other. We hope this short breakdown of how each part of an air conditioner works helped you understand the importance of bringing in your car should your air conditioner start to fail.
Catching automobile issues early on will save you time and money in the long run. Regularly scheduled air conditioning checks can prevent major repairs in the future. If you don’t have your air conditioning system checked regularly, you run the risk of your refrigerant leaking onto the compressor which could damage the compressor if left unattended for too long. A few signs to look for regarding a faulty air conditioning system are:
